Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences president buried at first Alley of Honor - UPDATE - PHOTO

President of Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences Mahmud Karimov has been buried at the first Alley of Honour today.

The 65 year old died of a sudden heart attack.

Mahmud Karimov was born in the town of Irevan on October 18, 1948. After moving with his family to Baku, he finished secondary school. He received higher education at the physics faculty of Azerbaijan State University in 1966-1971.

He also studied at the post-graduate course of the Radiation Research Branch of the Azerbaijani Academy of Sciences in 1975-1978. He defended his doctoral thesis in semiconductor and dielectric physics.

In 2001 he was elected a full member of the Azerbaijani Academy of Sciences followed by becoming president of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences that year.

The president of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (ANAS), academician Mahmud Karimov passed away on Sunday.

This information was confirmed by the vice-president of the ANAS, Arif Hashimov.

It is reported that Kerimov died in one of Turkey's hospitals of heart failure.

Mahmud Karimov was born on October 18, 1948 in Yerevan. In 1971, he graduated from the Faculty of Physics of Azerbaijan State University. Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Professor, from 2001, the President of the National Academy of Sciences (ANAS).

He was married and had a daughter, Sabina and a son, Farid.
