Card system to be applied in Azerbaijani public transport

It is planned to pass to the card payment system in buses in Azerbaijan by late 2013, spokesman for the Azerbaijani Transport Ministry Namiq Hasanov told Trend on Monday.

He added that at present, the work is underway to introduce a new payment system in public transport.

"It is planned to pass to electronic payment card system this year," Hasanov said.

Introducing a new payment system requires the installation of turnstiles and devices for cards, terminals for ordering the cards, the entrance and exit system.

Hasanov said that 1,200 new buses are required to upgrade the bus fleet in Baku.
