Construction works are underway in the area affected by the earthquake, and 22 of the 37 schools are already functioning. Alongside, opening ceremonies of schools take place with participation of representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the local authorities, the Minister of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan, Colonel-General Kamaladdin Heydarov told reporters on Sunday.

Construction of houses continues as well, Heydarov said, adding that as a result of the earthquake in Georgia, Balakan region is the most affected.

"If Zagatala and Gakh regions were the most affected by the first earthquake, the earthquake in Georgia caused most damage to Balakan region, where the work of the commission is still underway. 1,500 houses under construction will be completed by May," Heydarov said.

According to him, the work is not completed by commissioning of schools and houses.

"Together with local authorities, we meet with people affected by the earthquake, and get acquainted with their problems during the winter months. Solving these problems is our duty," Heydarov said.
