European Committee satisfied with results of monitoring in Baku's penitentiary institutions

 Azerbaijan`s justice minister Fikrat Mammadov met a delegation of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT).

Fikrat Mammadov briefed the delegation members on reforms carried out in his county to ensure human rights, develop penitentiary system, expand rights of prisoners and improve conditions in jails. He also underlined the importance of CPT`s recommendations in implementation of these reforms.

Members of the delegation praised the Committee`s cooperation with Justice Ministry of Azerbaijan. They highly appreciated the adoption of a new law in Azerbaijan ensuring the rights and freedoms of people held in prison. The Committee representatives expressed satisfaction with the results of their monitoring held in penitentiary institutions.
