Ancient inscriptions on rocks were found on the mountainous area Orand in the Lerik region of Azerbaijan. At first glance it is difficult to define the letters. One gets the impression that first surface of the rock was hewn, and then inscriptions were carved on. There are gaps in some places.
In general, the area of inscriptions is about 80-100 meters. History teacher of the Lerik Secondary School no.3 Araz Gurbanov said findings first attracted the attention of local historians. He said the life in Lerik began in the early and middle Paleolithic and Mesolithic.
Discovered inscriptions indicate that this area was a permanent place of compact residence of the tribe. It can be assumed that the inscriptions are related to the ancient religious rites. They provide information about the leaders of the tribe and the authorities in the area.
According to local historians, there are traces of ancient buildings not far from these inscriptions.
