
Visiting PACE Monitoring Committee co-rapporteurs Pedro Agramunt Font de Mora and Josef Debono Grech met with Azerbaijan`s Minister of Internal Affairs, colonel-general Ramil Usubov.
During the meeting, Usubov told of the present crime situation, occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia, reforms in interior bodies, fight against crimes.
Usubov let co-rapporteurs know about the new laws based on democratic principles and highlighted the role of international experts in these issues.
He underlined that the Ministry works hard to upgrade professional skills and world outlook of police staff. To effectively leverage the world best practices, Azerbaijani police officers take part in international forums through Council of Europe, OSCE and other international organizations.
Usubov pointed out that the Ministry pays a special attention to appeals from citizens and NGOs with respect to human rights violations by policemen.
He noted the Ministry works to bring the detention facilities in line with modern standards. International organizations regularly monitor these facilities and give their feedback on the situation.
In accordance with the national plan on the fight against human trafficking, mechanism and ways of combating such crimes were improved. Discussions were also concerned with the protection of rights of national minorities and fight against corruption.
The co-rapporteurs pointed out that the information provided by the Minister on the crime situation, human rights protection answered many issues.
