Expansion work at Baku Seaside Boulevard can be launched in 2012 - PHOTO

Work to expand the Baku Seaside Boulevard towards the village Zig can begin late this or early next year, deputy chief of the Department of Seaside Boulevard of the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan Nazim Majidov told reporters on Thursday.

"The length of the boulevard right now amounted to 6.5 kilometers, and the length of the coastal strip, designed for rest (from the Maritime Terminal to the Baku Crystal Hall) - 14 kilometers. Park, located opposite the Port Baku residences doesn't included in the boulevard, however, with the expansion of the boulevard in the direction of Nobel Avenue, it will certainly be included," Majidov said.

He noted that, work on the improvement of the coastal strip of the boulevard to the State Flag Square and Baku Crystal Hall is being completed.

"Work in this area will be completed in October or November. The next step is to extend the boulevard towards the village Zig. If such a decision is taken, the work in this direction can begin this year. At the first stage it is planned to expand the Boulevard to shopping center Amay. This work will take 2-3 years" Majidov said.
