In connection with more frequent traffic accidents the Transport Ministry of Azerbaijan has returned to the issue of additional (dedicated) lanes on roads for public transport.
Ministry’s spokesman Namig Hasanov says that such lanes are already being created on new roads, there is also even an indication «BUS», where only buses can go and stop.
"The Ministry is also considering the possibility of creating additional lanes on other roads of Baku, where it is possible. At the moment it is mainly in plans, but in the future such lanes will also appear on all roads of the capital," Hasanov said.
Earlier Deputy Transport Minister Musa Panahov informed that the Ministry is working on a special project to solve problems with traffic jams.
"The special project implies creation of special lanes for public transport. The project also includes measures to create special stops for public transport, where a ban on the entry of other types of transport will be introduced. All these works are carried out in order to ensure active traffic of public transport for accessibility and more intense use by the population,” Panakhov said.
Then the idea of dedicated lanes for public transport has faded into the background, and it was limited to a ban on parking within 15 m before and 15 m after the bus stop, which is usually not observed.
