Baku Metro says several stations will be closed again

27 August 2012 [17:33] - TODAY.AZ
Baku Metro’s “January 20-Darnagul” section will be temporarily closed this week again, chief Engineer of Baku Metro Elbrus Muradov said.

He said the date for closing of stations has not been fixed yet: But this week “January 20-Darnagul” section will be closed for the next and last time. It is very probably that it will coincide with weekends. That is only on these days, number of people is less than other days’.

Muradov added that closure of January 20-Darnagul section is connected with construction of new stations: ‘This time the section will be closed for 3 days. Consequently, January 20, Memar Ajami, Nasimi, Azadlig Avenue and Darnagul stations will not operate. Passengers will be able to use metro on Hazi Aslanov-Icherishahar and Hazi Aslanov-Inshaatchilar directions.

Note that, according to Conceptual Development Scheme of the Baku Metro Lines” and “State Program on Baku Metro Development for 2011-15”. Signed by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on March 18, 2011, “Memar Ajami” station of violet line must be opened in 2013. The tunnels situated between this line’s “Memar Ajami-2” and “B-3” stations situated at Jeyhun Salimov are being constructed now. This tunnel will pass under Green Line’s “Memar Ajami” station. The projector and companies involved in the construction proposed to stop the train traffic in this direction for carrying out the construction works without risks and ensuring security of passengers. Such methods are widely applied in tunnel construction and at this time the main duty is security of passengers.

Currently the construction work of “Avtovagzal” and “Memar Ajami” stations of Violet line is being continued. The tunnels between the stations, with length of 2 km each, are completed by the modern tunnel-excavation setting. Currently tunnel-excavation setting must excavate the above mentioned territory between 2 lines to open the traffic in the direction of “B-3” station (Jeyhun Salimov street)”.

Baku Metro said that the constructed “Memar Ajami 2” station will function as crossing from Violet line to “Memar Ajami” station of Green line.
