
Some 4,280 facts of violence against women have been identified in Azerbaijan last year. This figure was 820 in the past six months, deputy chairperson of the State Committee on Problems of Family, Women and Children Aynur Sofiyeva said during the regional seminar on “The prevention of domestic violence” held in Lerik, Azerbaijan. She said unfortunately the country still faces with such problems.
Sofiyeva said over 5000 early marriages were recorded in the country last year. The domestic violence is usually considered as a family dispute, but it frequently leads to suicide among women and children, Sofiyeva noted. 87 suicide incidents were recorded last year among the women, 28 – among the children. In the past six months, 33 women and 29 children committed suicide in the country.
