“Internet portals are considered as main information source in Azerbaijan”

“Currently, about 40 daily and 200 weekly newspapers, 9 nationwide broadcasters, 1 satellite television, 14 regional TV channels, 14 radio stations, about 40 news portals, about 20 internet radio are operating in Azerbaijan”, the Chairman of Azerbaijan’s Press Council Aflatun Amashov told journalists.

He said that according to official information sources, 65% of population use internet: “There are about 1 million users of Facebook and 2000 bloggers in Azerbaijan. About 100 000 people obtain information via internet TV and radios. A lot of works are being carried out in this sphere in Azerbaijan”

AAmashov also noted that despite of that the circulation of newspapers is about 5-10 thousands in Azerbaijan 5-10, about 50 000 people use websites which were created by these newspapers: “It shows that internet portals are considered as the main information source in Azerbaijan.”
