
New moon reporting the beginning of the month of Ramadan in Azerbaijan will be seen on July 19 at 09.25 by Baku time, Director of the Shamakhi-based Tusi Astrophysical Observatory of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) Eyyub Guliyev said.
He said the Caucasus Muslims Board will give fatwa due to begining of the month of Ramadan: “It is said sometimes that the moon should be absolutely seen. But it is possible that the weather will be cloudy and due to the proximity of the moon to the sun, it may be invisible. We wait for new moon with the astronomical accuracy.”
Guliyev said that there is an order of the Cabinet of Ministers Azerbaijan ? 198 dated December 7, 2011 on the occasion of Ramadan holiday: “According to this order, August 19-20 are considered holidays. The next moon will be renewed on August 17 at 20.55”
