Japanese Embassy-financed social project in Azerbaijani village

. A Hand-over ceremony of the Project for “Improvement of the Sewage System in Lahij Village of Ismailli Region” has been held in Lahij. The project was implemented as part of the “Grassroots and Human Security Grant Assistance Programme” of the Japanese government.

The project aims to improve the hygienic environment in Lahij throughout the installation new underground sewage pipes which will be connected to the historically existing ancient sewage system. Number of beneficiaries is about 2000 residents of Lahij village. Total amount of the Japanese Grant Assistance for this project is about $100,112.

The project saw the reconstruction of a school in Rusyan Village, the construction of a hospital in Galajig village, the Rehabilitation of a children’s polyclinic in Ismailli region, the improvement of the water supply facilities in Lahij village, the improvement of the Obstetric and Gynecological Department of Ivanovka Village Hospital, the improvement of Waste Management System of Ismailli region, the construction of drinkable water supply facilities in two settlements of Ismailli region, and the construction of a kindergarten in Zogari village.

Speaking to the ceremony, Japan`s ambassador in Baku Shusuke Watanabe said Azerbaijan and Japan enjoyed close relations in all fields. The ambassador thanked President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the people of Azerbaijani for assisting Japan in tackling the consequences of last year`s quake.

Local residents thanked the government of Japan for financing the project of improving the village`s sewage system.

“Grassroots and Human Security Grant Assistance Programme” supports projects applied by municipalities, medical institutions, and NGOs, aiming directly at the improvement of living standards of Azerbaijani people. The total number of projects contracted in Azerbaijan has made 154 so far.
