Baku surprised Int'l Union of Architects Secretary-General

International Union of Architects Secretary-General Michel Barmaki has met today with Azerbaijani Culture and Tourism Minister Abulfaz Garayev during his trip to the country.

Barmaki said he has stayed in Baku for three days and during that time he became acquainted with the work carried out in the capital and took part in several meetings.

Secretary General appreciated the reconstruction work in Baku, and said that he was surprised in a good sense of the word.

Barmaki met with chief of Baku executive power Hajibala Abutalibov. He also held meetings in the Azerbaijani Union of Architects. He inspected reconstruction operations carried out in ancient Baku fortress Icherisheher.

He added that the main purpose of his visit to Baku is to get acquainted with the architecture of the city.

"I really liked Baku's architecture and I will talk about this during my visits to other countries," he said. "I should stress that Azerbaijan has achieved the development for 20 years, while other countries can achieve this for 100 years."

He added that there are highly qualified specialists in Baku to develop a master plan for the capital.
