'No tortures recorded in Azerbaijani prisons '

"Monitoring is periodically conducted in Azerbaijani prisons. In case of revealing any problems, we will immediately appeal to the Justice Ministry. These shortfalls are eliminated in most cases," Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova told media today.

"We have no information about tortures in prisons," she said. "Torture is condemned in Azerbaijan and many other countries. However, the Ombudsman may raise the issue only if there is a corresponding complaint. If anyone appeals with a complaint of mistreatment, we immediately send the complaint to the Prosecutor General's Office, the Interior Ministry and Justice Ministry."
