Number of London taxis doubles in Baku

Up to 1,000 London TX4 taxi cabs are to operate on the streets of Baku starting from the next week.

Ilgar Gasimov, director of Baku Taxi (it has exclusive rights for use of London taxi TX4 in Baku), has informed that currently there are 500 taxis on the roads of the capital.

"The remaining 500 vehicles are already in the city and are being equipped with navigators, POS-terminals and taximeters. We’ll release the new taxi cars on the Baku highways since the next week," Gasimov said.

He added that drivers hired for all new taxi cars are passing English language courses for high-quality customer service.

In accord with Transport Ministry’s decision only 5,000 licensed taxis will be able to operate on the Baku streets. Of them, 3,000 will be London taxi cabs and the rest 2,000 will be white cars equipped with navigators, meters and POS-terminals.
