LED-technologies will be applied in the street lighting system in Baku, the Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry’s Research Center for High Technology reported. The works are close completion on setting up a production line, installations of the necessary equipment and ensurance of uninterruptible power supplies.
Deployment of LED production is planned to be carried out in the next two months, and the practical application of LED technology will be possible by late this year. "The project is commercial in nature. Following the application of the new system here, it will be exported to international markets,” the center reported.
Laboratory studies in this area have already been held and, according to the plans, the production of LED lighting systems is planned to start in the middle of 2012.
The solid state lighting is energy efficient and environmentally friendly method, which, unlike ordinary incandescent bulbs, saves energy consumption up to 80 percent. LED lighting system intended to be used for both decorative and general lighting, including the architectural buildings, streets, parks and highways.
Also, the center plans to produce infrared LEDs for their further use in fiber-optic communication lines.
