28 April 2012 [08:25] - TODAY.AZ
Russian made taxis will not operate in Baku from May 1, spokesman for the Azerbaijani Ministry of Transport Namig Hasanov told Trend on Friday.

"Cars produced in other countries, corresponding to the requirements set by the ministry, will still work as taxis," Hasanov said.

He stressed that the licenses of only 5,000 cars will be approved to meet Baku's needs for taxis.

"This volume will be sufficient to meet Baku's needs for taxis," Hasanov said.

Foreign white cars, meeting all technical requirements and having special decals and equipped with taximeters will get licenses.

About 1,000 cars of the total number of licensed taxis in Baku will fall to London Taxi TX4 of Baku Taxi Company, 4,000 cars - to other cars.

The total number of London Taxi TX4 cars in Baku will increase to 3,000 in the future.
