Ombudsman hopes for punishment of hose who beat journalist

Commissioner for Human Rights in Azerbaijan Elmira Suleymanova expressed the hope that those who beat an employee of Ayna and Zerkalo newspapers Idrak Abbasov will be punished.

"After this incident, I asked the Prosecutor General and the Minister of the Interior that the case would be investigated and the guilty in the beating of journalist punished," the Ombudsman told reporters on Thursday.

Earlier she met with the injured journalist in a clinical medical center.

She said it is imperative to teach individuals who are on duty to prevent the violation of the law. And random people shouldn't deal with this.

Journalist Idrak Abbasov was injured during a protest of Sulutepe village's residents against demolition of illegal buildings in the oil and gas industries.
