Azerbaijan works to simplify visa obtaining procedure

Upon Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s order, persons entering the country during Eurovision-2012 contest will be able to get visas at the airport, Culture and Tourism Minister Abulfaz Garayev said.

The Minister estimated this as a very serious step, adding that the work is underway to develop appropriate program for the issuance of visas to foreigners coming to Azerbaijan in an e-form. “Under the program, tourists coming to Azerbaijan will receive a visa within 15 days via the Internet. At present time, serious works are carried out in this direction. I think that the end of the year tourists, who arrive in Azerbaijan, will be able to obtain a visa through the Internet”.

Garayev noted that such steps would boost tourism in the country: “The growth rate of tourism in Azerbaijan last year was 14%. Considering last year’s figures, the rate of growth in this sector this year is expected at 10-15%”.
