French culture minister tours Baku - PHOTOS

The French minister of culture and communication Frederic Mitterand visited the State Museum of Azerbaijan Carpet and Folklore Applied Art and International Mugham Center in Baku.

The guest familiarized himself with construction of the new building of the State Museum of Azerbaijan Carpet and Folklore Applied Art.

Azeri minister of culture and tourism Abulfaz Garayev said the construction of the building, which has been started in 2008, is a joint project of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Ministry of Culture and Tourism and UNESCO.

The four-storied building with a total area of 18 thousand square meters will cover library, center for carpet weaving, bookstall, audio, video and exhibition halls etc. The French minister praised the works done here to protect the Azerbaijani carpets art. Mr. Mitterand also watched a video trailer on construction works.

Mr. Frederic Mitterand also familiarized himself with International Mugham Center. He was informed that construction of this center was realized at the initiative of the head of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, ISESCO and UNESCO Goodwill ambassador Mehriban Aliyeva. President Ilham Aliyev signed an executive order in April 6 2006 on construction of the International Mugham Center.

The minister saw the busts of the eminent Azerbaijani mugham singers. Mr. Mitterand also listened to the young performers.

French minister of culture and communication Frederick Mitterrand has today visited Nizami movie theatre. Azerbaijan`s minister of culture and tourism Abulfas Garayev informed his French counterpart about the reconstruction of the theatre.

Mitterrand was told the reconstruction of the theatre was carried out in accordance with Azerbaijani President’s instructions.

He viewed photographs reflecting the previous look and reconstruction of the theatre.
The theatre has a 50- and 80-seat auditorium on the ground floor, a 500-seat major cinema hall on the first floor and a 24-seat VIP cinema hall on the fourth floor.

The theatre will also house shopping centers, cafeterias, a café club, a press center, and a 250-seat restaurant of national and European cuisine. The French minister noted the importance of cooperation between France and Azerbaijan in the sphere of cinematography. He said France was ready to sign an agreement with Azerbaijan on cooperation in film production.

Azerbaijan`s Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev today met with the visiting French minister of culture Frederick Mitterrand.

Stressing the importance of such meetings for expanding bilateral cooperation between the two countries, Abulfaz Garayev praised progress achieved in the country`s tourism sector.

He underlined the significance of the exhibitions organized in Louvre Museum for the popularization of Azerbaijani culture. Frederick Mitterran highlighted redevelopment works in Azerbaijan`s capital Baku.

He expressed assurance bilateral meetings would give a push to existing political, economical and cultural relations between the two countries. The sides exchanged keepsakes.
