
The Azerbaijani Transport Ministry has strengthened control over the taxi drivers whose cars do not meet the Ministry’s requirements to taxis. Ministry’s spokesman Namig Hasanov says that the inspectors of the Ministry are presently conducting raids on the roads due to activity of old taxis.
" Under the legislation, owners of such cars , in particular of old Russian made " Jiguli" are penalized for AZN 100. in case of repeated legislation breach, the taxi drivers’ cars go to penalty area ",- N. Hasanov said.
In his words, the term set by 1 May is deadline and owners of " Jiguli" and other cars useless as taxis , should not think that they can still provide services.
" The ministry employees will keep on taking measures on removal of such taxis from roads",- N. Hasanov said.
The Ministry will issue totally 5,000 licenses for taxi services in Baku. The 1,000 of them will be given to London taxis TX4 and the rest 4,000 to white vehicles of foreign manufacture, in good condition and equipped with navigators and counters.
