About 117 mosques built in Azerbaijan

About 117 mosques, 1 church and 1 synagogue have been constructed, dozens of mosques, as well as 4 churches and 2 synagogues have been overhauled in Azerbaijan over the last 8 years, says the report on the activity of Azerbaijani government in 2011. The report, which was presented to the Parliament, underlines that 7 mosques and sanctuaries were constructed and overhauled under the auspices of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

The report says that the number of religious communities which passed the state registration reached to 571. 551 of them are Islamic, 20 – non-Islamic.

Besides, the report says that the necessary measures were continued for the purpose of carrying out joint struggle with foreign countries against radical groups and harmful sects, a lot of meetings and important discussions were held with state and governmental representatives of foreign countries, representatives of international and NGOs, ambassadors and other officials.
