
Number of complaints to European Court of Human Rights filed by IDPs has increased significantly, said permanent representative of Azerbaijan to the European Court of Human Rights Chingiz Asgarov at the event on freedom of expression for judges initiated by the European Council and European Union.
Asgarov underlined that the preparation for the next stage of consideration of complaints by Azerbaijani IDPs from Lachin region as part of the Chiragov and others v. Armenia case is underway. IDPs from Lachin region of Azerbaijan - Fakhraddin Pashayev, Ramiz Jabrayilov, Sagatel Jabrayilov, Akif Hasanov, Elkhan Chiragov, and Adishirin Chiragov seek compensation for material and moral damage.
According to Asgarov, the Court reviewed these complaints and made a relevant decision. The Court initiated proceedings in the case, and will make ruling afterwards. Asgarov also pointed out the European Court received more than 1000 complaints by IDPs. Representative of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan Jerome Pons and head of the Baku office of the CoE Konstantin Erokostopoulos stressed they support democratic processes in Azerbaijan.
