No problems with vessels in Azov Sea - UPDATE

No "SOS" signal has been received from vessels stuck in ice in the Azov Sea, which confirms that there are no problems there, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Ukraine said on Monday.

The Transport Ministry of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea told the embassy that no appeal for aid has been received.

According to the information presented by the Ukrainian side, all ships are safe at sea. If any vessels need assistance, they will receive immediate help. After the ice thaws, vessels will continue navigation.

The National Centre for the Recognition and Monitoring of vessels which assists the Azerbaijan State Maritime Administration has revealed that there are Azerbaijanis on board of two of the six ships stuck in ice in the Sea of Azov, near the port of Temryuk, the administration told Trend on Monday.

It is stated that there are six Azerbaijanis on board the Azov Wind ship and six on Prastos . Negotiations are underway for the provision of further assistance for those Azerbaijanis on the board.

A national center for monitoring vessels from a distance, which operates under the Azerbaijani State Maritime Administration, has made contact with vessels stuck in the Sea of Azov to see if Azerbaijani citizens are on board, the administration told Trend on Monday.

"The administration has not received any information that there are," the administration said. It added that there is no accurate data on Azerbaijani citizens on the vessels.

Six vessels are stuck in the ice in the Azov Sea near the port of Temryuk. According to information released by media on Monday, there are ten Azerbaijani citizens on board.

Today, two icebreakers from the port of "Caucasus" (Krasnodar region) will deliver food and water vessels to those who stuck in ice near the Temryuk port in the Azov Sea, Interfax reported.

The icebreakers Captain Krutov and Captain Moshkin where sent to the scene, where six ships trapped in icy water in the Azov Sea, the Southern Regional Emergency Center reported. In addition, Mi-8 helicopters will be sent to deliver food to the  ships.


The ships are Elga-1, Azov Concept, Orenburg, Saint Nicholas, Azov Wind and Prastos. According to the information 10 citizens of Azerbaijan, as well as citizens of Turkey, Ukraine, Russia and Georgia are on board of the ships.
