Baku Airport cancels several flights - UPDATE

The Vienna-Baku, Baku-Vienna, Tashkent-Baku, Baku-Tashkent and London-Baku flights have been canceled due to poor weather conditions, the Heydar Aliyev International Airport told Trend on Thursday.

According to the information, the aircraft on the Vienna-Baku route should arrive in Baku at 16:55 and depart from the capital at 17:55 local time. The plane from Tashkent to Baku should arrive at 15:45 and depart from Baku at 16:55 local time.

"The flight from London to Baku, which was supposed to arrive in the capital at 21:05 Baku time, has also been canceled," the airport said.

The Heydar Aliyev International Airport is closed for transit flights, spokesman for Azerbaijan Airlines closed joint-stock company Maharram Safarli told Trend on Thursday.

He said that at present, Azerbaijan Airlines intends to ensure receiving own air flights (coming to Baku airport). It is impossible to receive transit flights now.

"At present, the airport is opened for receiving only our flights," Mr Safarli said. "The airport does not receive transit flights."

Touching upon the delayed flights, Mr Safarli stressed that they will be made as the weather conditions allow. Earlier, Azerbaijan Airlines flights were delayed till 15:00 (GMT +4), but then the delay was extended. Mr Safarli did not specify the exact period of the delay.

Problems associated with bad weather conditions and snowstorm delayed departure of a number of flights from the Heydar Aliyev International Airport, the Airport told Trend.

In particular, currently dispatch of Baku-Prague, Baku-Nakhichivan, Baku-Kiev-Baku, Baku-Ganja, Baku-Istanbul, Baku-Dubai, Baku-Ankara, Baku-Tehran, Baku-Moscow flights delay.

"Due to bad weather conditions, flights delay until 12:00 local time," the Airport said.
No problem is observed in arrival of aircrafts, the Airport said.

A strong snowstorm began in Baku in the morning influenced the work of Heydar Aliyev International Airport. Although, no flights were canceled, departure of all flights from Baku are delayed.

The arrival of the Tehran-Baku flight, which was supposed to arrive at 05:40, also delayed until 12:00. The flight J2 258 from Nakhchivan  to Baku, which was supposed to arrive at 02:55 was unable to land and returned back.
