The National Monitoring Department on Environment of the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry implemented the next monitoring for the purpose of review of the pollution level of Kura and Aras transboundary rivers, as well as transboundary tributaries of them.

Water consumption in Kura river held 136 m3/sec in the third decade of January, decreasing 10 m3/sec in comparison to the second decade of January. According to the results of the monitorings, the amount of bio substances in Kura river was considerably more than norm due to domestic wastes and slops of industrial enterprises discharged directly to water objects without purification from the territories of Georgia and Armenia. Phenols and copper compounds as specific contaminants in the water composition exceeded the admissible turbidity level.

In this regard, phenols and copper compounds surpassed the admissible turbidity level quadruple and thrice in Shikli-2 settlement, thrice in Agstafachay settlement, while twice and thrice in Agstafachay reservoir respectively. According to the outcomes of the monitorings conducted in the third decade of January, phenols and copper compounds outnumbered the admissible turbidity level thrice and twice in Horadiz settlement, twice and fourfold in I Shahsevan settlement, while thrice and four times in Bahramtapa settlement respectively with regard to Aras river. The water oxygen regime changed within the sanitary norm in all settlements containing 6.10-7.60 mg/l.
