
As of early 2012, 516 hospitals and 1,688 outpatient clinics with 33 000 doctors and 60 000 paramedical personnel operate in Azerbaijan, the State Statistical Committee reported. Thus, 36 doctors and 66 paramedical personnel fell per 10 000 people.
Most of the diseases recorded in the country are respiratory, infectious, parasitic, digestive diseases and blood circulation disorders.
Based on the Health ministry’s data, in January-November 2011, compared to the reporting period of 2010, the cases of epidemic parotitis reduced by 19 percent, viral hepatitis by 35 percent, pediculosis by 40 percent, the itch by 6 percent, cases of diphtheria, measles, inherent German measles and tetanus in newborns were recorded. The cases of whooping cough, syphilis, scarlet fever, brucellosis and respiratory tuberculosis increased.
