Terror act prevented in Baku - UPDATE

The Azerbaijani National Security Ministry prevented a terror act. Its implementation was planned in Baku, the ministry said today.The National Security Ministry carried out operations and detained a group of persons accused of planning a  murder of public figures, illegally obtaining a great deal of firearms, munitions, explosives.

Azerbaijani citizens Rasim Aliyev , Ali Huseynov and Balagardash Dadashov, who is wanted over banditry, kidnapping, together with several other persons,  made preparations to attempt on the life of foreign public figures in Baku, i.e. to commit a terrorist attack. They smuggled firearms, ammunition, explosives to Azerbaijan and committed other illegal actions to this end.

Balagardash Dadashev, linked to Iran's intelligence service charged his brother-in-law Rasim Aliyev with preparation of attempt on lives of public figures - citizens of foreign states in Baku. Rasim Aliyev was promised $150,000. Aliyev in his turn involved his friend Ali Hasanov.

Balagardash Dadashev delivered from Iran to Azerbaijan rifles, silencers, telescopic sights, plastic substance, cartridges and hid it in beforehand agreed place at 150 kilometer of Baku-Astara highway crossing Bilasuvar region.

As a result of immediate swift actions the National Security Ministry detained Rasim Aliyev and Ali Huseynov who didn't manage to implement a terror act. All hidden arms were revealed and confiscated.

Chief investigative department of the ministry of national security started investigation into criminal case on the following articles of the Criminal Code- preparation for crime, infringement on life of state or public figure (terror act), smuggling by group of people by prior collusion, illegal purchase, transfer, dealing in, storage, transportation or carrying of arms, ammunition, explosives, explosive devices by group of people by prior collusion. measure of restraint. Rasim Aliyev and Ali Hasanov were detained. All necessary investigative and operational search actions continue.
