Incident occurs in hunting farm in Azerbaijan

Regular raids are conducted by employees of the related bodies of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources (MENR) for the purpose of review of the conformity with the requirements of the Law “on hunting” of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and prevention of illegal hunting
activities in the territory of the country.

During the raid carried out on January 10, 2012, at “Zavvar” hunting farm, operating in the territories of the regions of Bilasuvar and Jalilabad, 5 poachers were detained at about 11 pm, and subsequently shotguns of four of them were confiscated connected with the lack of their certificate of permission. At this time another poacher took his shotgun from the recess, and opened fire in the direction of the employees of the Ministry, but fortunately there were no casualties. Later that person intimidated one of the employees of the Ministry with killing, and thus the illicit hunters took the four seized shotguns from the hull of the vehicle, and ran away.

Information on the fact was given to the service #102 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Police Department of Jalilabad region and General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and legal proceedings were taken afterwards at the Procuracy of Jalilabad region. Measures on the struggle against illegal hunting activities in the territory of the Republic are succeeded with the purpose to maintain the compliance with the requisitions of the Law “on hunting” of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources warns that such illegal affairs can not restrain its employees from combating law violators, and once again calls on the public to avoid the leisure accompanied with an unlawful hunting, and abstain from illegal actions directed on the nature.
