New payment system will be applied in transport

Card system fare on buses in Baku will be implemented by April 2012, Head of the Azerbaijani Transport Ministry ‘s Transport Policy & Economy Department Sadraddin Mammadov said.

”As a result, it will prevent unauthorized artificially drive up, the cost of travel by drivers at different time of day and weather,” he said, adding that  it will be possible to pay bus fare by metro cards, as well.

He added that under the system created in Baku - Intelligent Transport Management also provides certain items to facilitate the use of cards. Thus, the amount of funds on the card can be checked by monitors installed at bus stops. A few years later the bus can be paid via mobile phone.

In connection with the transition to a rationing system, special devices for the automatic sale of cards will be installed in different areas in Baku. Through these devices it will be available to fill up the card and its balance sheet. Cards can be also purchased for one day. Anyone will be able to use and thereafter return the card and take the downloaded money.
