European bank to assist Georgia in developing ICT

Tbilisi hosted a conference workshop on the topic "Urgent issues of Information Communications Development Policy in Georgia" with the organization of the Georgian Economy Ministry and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The event was opened by the Economy Minister Vera Kobalia. In her speech she touched upon the situation in the country in terms of information communications.

"I am confident that the work planned within the technical assistance project of the EBRD and the Government of Finland, which envisage leading international experts' involvement in preparation of recommendations to the Georgian Government in the sphere of ICT, will yield a good result. We will have an opportunity to improve legal and normative base of ICT sphere given best international practices," Kobalia said.

The conference is part of the technical assistance program, "Georgia: policy of information communications and regulation development ", which EBRD and the Government of Finland implemented in cooperation with the Georgian Economy Ministry and the National Communications Commission. The program mainly aims at preparing a package associated with information communications policy in Georgia.
