07 December 2011 [19:32] - TODAY.AZ
A meeting of foreign ministers of the GUAM countries was held within the OSCE ministerial meeting in Vilnius. Ministers have made a political statement in connection with the de facto presidential elections of the breakaway Georgian region of South Ossetia. Ministers expressed support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity and stated that they do not consider the elections held in South Ossetia legitimate and legally.

Military actions were launched in the Georgian territory, South Ossetia on Aug.8 in 2008. Later the Russian troops occupied the Tskhinvali city and drove the Georgian military back. Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in late August. In response, Tbilisi broke off diplomatic relations with Moscow and announced two unrecognized republics as the occupied territories.
