Georgia’s main highways open despite snowfall

The two-day snowfall in Georgia has not violated traffic on the highways linking the western and eastern parts of the country. As a result of prompt clearing of roads traffic was not limited anywhere, Georgian highways department said.

Heavy equipment has been involved in the high mountain passes, which constantly clear the roads, the most dangerous sections are sprinkled with technical salt.

There is no problem with traffic in Tbilisi despite the snow and low temperatures.
At the same time, drivers must be extremely cautious, especially in the evening hours when the temperature drops.

Meanwhile, the number of appeals to Tbilisi hospitals for injuries received as a result of falls on slippery streets has sharply increased during these two days. Some 43 people appealed to hospitals due to fractures and injuries over the last day. Forecasters predict that the weather will further deteriorate tomorrow.
