Turkish Air Forces strikes PKK militants in northern Iraq

14 November 2011 [14:00] - TODAY.AZ
The Turkish Air Force delivers new blow to the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in northern Iraq, CNN Turk reported.

After reconnaissance flights, the Turkish fighter jets bombed and shelled the camp, where PKK militants train during the night of Nov.13.

Turkey has launched an active fight against terrorism since mid August. The Turkish Air Force makes bombing raids over the positions of the Kurdish separatists in northern Iraq and in Turkey.

Air strikes were conducted after a militant terror attack in southeastern Turkey on Aug. 17, during which nine Turkish servicemen were killed.

In response to the attack of Kurdish militants in Hakkari province bordering with Iraq, which killed 24 Turkish servicemen and wounded 18 on the night of Oct.19, the Turkish army launched a major ground operation in five regions of Northern Iraq. The 10,000-grouping, mainly for special purposes were involved in the operations.

The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which has continued for more than 25 years, put an end to lives of over 40,000 people. PKK is recognized as terrorist organization by the UN and the EU.
