President: Talks with Russia on WTO resulted in Georgian diplomacy’s victory

The Russia-Georgia negotiations on the World Trade Organization (WTO) resulted in the victory of the Georgian diplomacy, Georgia's President Mikheil Saakashvili said at a joint news briefing with NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen in Batumi.

"This is a very important and significant victory, as for the first time after Georgia's gaining independence and occurrence of the conflict in its territory, the international monitoring over the movement of goods will begin in the internationally recognized borders of Georgia," he said.
Saakashvili said Georgia has taken a principled stand, and it gave the result.

"The question of our borders is a fundamental for us it and although many in the West doubted that we will be able to realize our interests, we were able to do so," Saakashvili said.

He said the control over the goods will be carried out by foreigners, but not Russian citizen, and the whole process will be overseen by Switzerland.
