About 20 prisoners to be released on parole in Georgia

02 September 2011 [14:11] - TODAY.AZ
The Georgian council released 20 prisoners on parole, two of them women. The Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance told Trend that about 200 applications were considered.

According to the new Georgian code on imprisonment, there are two regional councils in eastern Georgia and western Georgia and one juvenile council on the parole board. The councils are replacing the parole commission.

The councils conduct prisoner interviews, making monthly decisions on paroles, or, if necessary, changing the penalties.

Tonight courts have approved the council's decisions. On Friday afternoon, 20 prisoners will be released.
