19 August 2011 [09:41] - TODAY.AZ
One of the strategic projects of the Georgian railway, which aims to modernize the central railway line, is successfully carried out in accordance with the plan, a source in Georgian Railways JSC told Trend on Thursday.

The main goals of the project are to ensure maximum safety of movement, increase capacity and reduce transportation time. Today these goals have been achieved at three sections where construction and rehabilitation have already been conducted.

As a result of these measures, the passengers will be able to reach their destination within less time, the capacity of the railway will increase, and it will contribute to the growth of cargo turnover. After completion of the "Speedy Railway" project, the time from Batumi to Tbilisi will take three hours.

Only during the summer, from June 1 to August 15, the railway department laid more than 17 km rails and from 9 to 16 August, rails were laid in length of three kilometers.
