Number of female smokers increases in Iran

19 August 2011 [11:40] - TODAY.AZ
The number of female smokers in Iran has increased by 2.5 percent, said the Professor at Shahid Beheshti University Zahra Hisami, Iranian MEHR news agency reported. Hisami added that 15 percent of the population smoke cigarettes. Of them, 27.1 percent are men, 4.5 percent are women.

She said three years ago, the number of female smokers in Iran accounted for 2 percent.
If earlier it was impossible to see female smokers in the streets, now these women can be seen in the streets and in cars, that is alarming, said Hisami.

In Iran women are prohibited to enter places of hookah smoking.
