AIDS infections grow in Iran

Based on official statistics, one person is infected with AIDS every six hours in Iran, Iranian AIDS Research Center Seid Ahmed Ali Nagi was quoted as saying by the Iranian news site ghanoononline.ir.

Nagi said the country recorded over 22,000 people infected with HIV, although in reality the number is over 100,000 people.

According to the Iranian Health Ministry, the country recorded 20,975 AIDS-infected people in 2010. This index was 20,130 people in December 2009.

According to these statistics, some 75 percent of the total AIDS-infected people were infected through drug use and 17.9 percent through sexual intercourse.
