17 August 2011 [13:40] - TODAY.AZ
Turkey plans to make investments of $28 billion in Istanbul which bids to host the 2020 Olympic Games.

Yalcin Aksoy, director-general of the Committee of Istanbul Olympic Games Preparation and Organization, told the A.A they would work with leading international firms for architecture, engineering, construction, strategic communication and advertisement.

He highlighted importance of people's support to the project, and called on everyone from the president to athletes to join promotion and lobbying activities.

"China made investment of $43 billion for Beijing 2008 Games while the United Kingdom's investments are expected to reach $30 billion for London 2012 Games. We are planning to make investments of $28 billion for Istanbul in the next seven years," he said.

International Olympic Committee (IOC) will select the 2020 host city in 2013.

Besides Istanbul, Rome, Madrid and Tokyo have already announced their bids to host the games.

Turkey will also stage the Mediterranean games in 2013, after neighboring Greece, suffering a steep economic crisis, decided not to host them.
