Gul says Turkish state will never 'yield against terrorism'

16 July 2011 [11:11] - TODAY.AZ
"Our state will never bow down to intimidations, blackmails or violence and those who resort to such ways are doomed to defeat," Gul told reporters.

Turkish President Abdullah Gul on Friday reaffirmed that Turkey's resolute stance against 'terrorism' could not wear off in the face of militant acts.

"Our state will never bow down to intimidations, blackmails or violence. And those who resort to such ways are doomed to defeat," Gul told reporters.

Gul was referring to Thursday's ambush by the PKK militants on Turkish troops in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir that killed 13 soldiers and wounded 7 others.

Gul said Thursday's attack came at a time when "the nation has started to embrace and talk to each other again."

"This attack is not a coincidence regarding its timing. There are many purposes behind these militant acts. But our state's fight against terrorism' will never wear out," he said.
