NATO condemns Kurdish rebel attack on Turkish soldiers

15 July 2011 [19:30] - TODAY.AZ
NATO on Friday condemned attack by Kurdish separatist rebels in southeastern Turkey, in which 13 soldiers were killed and seven injured.

"I strongly condemn the terrorist attack in Dyiarbakir province," NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said in a statement, DPA reported.

"Such heinous attacks have no justification. I express my heartfelt condolences to the families of those who were killed. NATO Allies stand in full solidarity (with Turkey) against the scourge of terrorism," Rasmussen said.

Seven people, presumed to be members of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), were also killed in the shootout near the town of Silvan on Thursday, the deadliest attack on troops in three years.
