Iranian pilgrims die in Iraq bus crash

26 March 2011 [10:44] - TODAY.AZ
At least two Iranian pilgrims have lost their lives and 18 others have sustained injuries after their bus overturned in Iraq's eastern province of Wasit, Press TV reported.

The accident took place on Friday morning on the road connecting the provincial capital of Kut, located some 160 kilometers (100 miles) southeast of Baghdad, to the city of Numaniyah on the Tigris River, IRIB reported.

Police said the driver of the bus was driving the drenched road when he lost control and flipped his vehicle.

According to the report, the bodies of the victims and the pilgrims wounded in the road accident have been transferred to Iran.

Iranian pilgrims travel to the neighboring country to visit the shrine cities of Karbala and Najaf. Since the US-led invasion of Iraq, many Iranian pilgrims have fallen victim to bombings in the war-torn country.
