We know that violence against women has been a longstanding bleeding wound of the society. However, violence against women was always hidden. For the first time in ruling of AK Party government, the matter was assessed seriously, and researches were carried out."

A circular was released in 2006 to prevent violence against women and children. Gender equality was settled on a solid ground with amendments made to the constitution. Positive discrimination was brought to women on September 12 referendum. In order to make them more reliable and secure, we have taken them under Constitutional guarantee."

"We have constructed houses to protect women who were exposed to violence in their home. AK Party defended women's right sincerely and in a determined way in the past eight years. We have exerted efforts for women to take place in politics," Erdogan said.
