29 tons of opium seized at Tehran airport

29 tons of opium was seized at the Tehran International Airport named after Imam Khomeini, the jamejamonline.ir website reported.

Narcotic substance was brought from China to the Indian city of Mumbai, and from there was delivered to Tehran on a special plane by the order of one of the Iranian private pharmaceutical companies.

Payment for goods was made by one of the Iranian banks ordered by the company. A criminal case is under investigation.

According to unofficial information, the opium was brought into the country under the health ministry’s order. The drugs were intended for the manufacture of pharmaceuticals.

Such a large consignment of drugs arrested in Iran for the first time.
