Iranian President appoints new atomic energy chief

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Sunday appointed Fereydoun Abbasi as vice-president and the new head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran. Part of the decree reads, according to Article 124 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran and due to your commitment, piety and useful scientific and executive records, you (Fereydoun Abbasi) are appointed as new head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran.

'I hope that in the new era that is full of victory, dignity and vividness for the Iranian nation, with the help of God Almighty and by making use from the expertise of Iran's young and creative experts, you will succeed in making use from all potentials in industrial, agricultural, medical and energy sectors.'

Fereydoun Abbasi has PhD in nuclear physics. The 52-year-old Abbasi was awarded by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as exemplary academic in 2007. He is a member of central council of Iranian Nuclear Society.

Abbasi escaped an assassination attempt in December 2010.
