Commissioning of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway to increase trade turnover between Turkey and Azerbaijan

The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project is scheduled to be completed in 2012.
After the rail line becomes operational, it will be transporting 1,200,000 passengers and 3,500,000 tons of cargo during first years and then surge to 7,800,000 people and 21,500,000 tons in 2034.

The Turkish Transport Minister Binali Yildirim noted that the 2.5 km-long tunnel, 3 long bridges, 12 overpasses and new station on the Turkey-Georgia border will be built along the railway.

B.Yildirim stressed that trade turnover between Turkey and Azerbaijan will increase to USD 10 billion after Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is put into operation.
