THY passenger detained in Istanbul after bomb threat

06 January 2011 [14:52] - TODAY.AZ
Police on Wednesday detained a passenger who claimed to be wearing a bomb on a Turkish Airlines flight from Oslo to Istanbul, Turkish media reported.

The passenger claimed that he was wearing a bomb and attempted to enter the cockpit while the Boeing 737-800 plane was flying over Bulgarian air space, Anatolia news agency reported.

Flight attendants prevented him from entering the cockpit.

The plane landed safely at 8:50 p.m. Wednesday at Istanbul's Atatürk Airport with 60 passengers onboard. No one was injured in the attempted hijacking, and police detained the suspect after evacuating the other passengers.

It was unclear Wednesday evening if the suspect was wearing a bomb.
