Erdogan: House of Representatives resolution on the so-called "Armenian genocide" not brought on agenda

22 December 2010 [12:07] - TODAY.AZ
House of Representatives resolution on the so-called "Armenian genocide" is not on the agenda at the moment, Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said after his meeting with his Syrian counterpart Naji al-Utri  in Ankara on Tuesday, CNN Turk reported.

"We closely monitor developments on the issue. It is not brought into the agenda at the moment; however it did not mean that it would never be. We are in a close pursuit", Erdogan told reporters.

The resolution on so-called "Armenian genocide" was approved by the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs on March 4. 23 congressmen voted for the resolution and 22 against it. The vote opened the way for the measure possibly to be considered by the full House.

Last week the U.S. State Department strongly opposed the potential House of Representatives resolution on the so-called "Armenian genocide".

Armenia claims that the Turkey's predecessor - Ottoman Empire committed "genocide" against Armenians living in Anatolia in 1915.
